Day 29: Preparing the Breast Pocket

Breast Pocket Placement Backing

A pocket, closest to the heart. The first step is unseen—a hidden strip of canvas, placed on the reverse side, stabilizing the fabric and staying the pocket for years to come. Basted in place, slightly slanted, guiding the structure before a single stitch is made.

Underneath it, the front dart disappears into the cloth, its tip balanced by a strip of cotton—counteracting bulk, smoothing transitions, ensuring nothing disturbs the quiet frame of the garment.

A pocket should be there when needed, but never demand attention. When done right, we notice the wearer, not the work.
